After retirement, she embraced poetry when a friend’s painting inspired her first poem, “Memoires en argent”, written in Paris at a meeting of poets and writers. “’Memories in Silver’ is wonderful writing – a simple idea, simply executed and beautifully supported. It’s full of emotion, but not overworked. Every image, every sentence, every memory rings true. –Andrew Lycett, London author/biographer

“These poems have personal integrity and are both deeply felt and clearly expressed, always welcome in any art.” –Kurt Heinzelman, Emeritus Professor of Poetry and Poetics, University of Texas at Austin

“’In Trieste by the Sea’ has fine detail, good suspense throughout, the feeling of being there, at that place, at that time… good with the mood, the tone, the emotions quietly expressed.” –David Wevill, poet

“Maria Wells is a natural poet. She weaves in details that invite the reader to share the moment as if standing next to her. His work reflects his travels, culture and knowledge without being noble and his observations reveal parts of the human psyche with wisdom, clarity and sometimes humor. –Cathy Sydlo Wilkes, author/poet, New Braunfels Creative Writers
